Meri Nikula on performanssi- ja äänitaiteilija. Hänen performanssinsa ovat voimakkaasti visuaalisia teoksia joissa tanssillinen keho ja ääni ovat pääosissa. Merin taiteellisten prosessien lähtökohtana on ihmisenä olemisen syvemmät virtaukset, ihmisyyden ydinkokemukset jotka suodattuvat meitä ulkokohtaisesti ohjaavien ja samalla alitajuisesti sisäistettyjen sosiaalisten ihanteiden ja normien läpi. Ketä oikeastaan olemme? Miten sisäinen todellisuutemme sovittuu yhteen jaetun todellisuuden kanssa? Miten oikeastaan kohtelemme itseämme ja toisiamme yrittäessämme mukautua vallitsevaan kulttuuriin? Miten sovittaa yhteen ihmisenä olemisen herkkyys, eläimellisyys, kauneus ja rujous? Sooloperformanssi 'Survival of the Fittest' (Vahvimman Laki) käsittelee kilpailuyhteiskunnan vaatimuksia ja inhimillisyyden läpikuultoa.

Meri Nikula is performance- and vocal artist. Her performances are strongly visual, choreographed between the physical and the metaphysical. The basis for Meri’s artistic processes are the deeper currents of being a human, the core-experiences of all humanity that filter through the social ideals and norms which are (sub)consciously digested and which guide our behaviour and outer appearances. Who are we actually? How does our inner reality adjust with the shared reality? How do we treat ourselves and each other when we try to adapt to the prevailing culture? How to blend together the animality, the sensibility, the beauty and the rawness of our human condition?
The solo-performance ‘Survival of the Fittest’ addresses the demands of a competitive society and the transparency of being human.
